Description
Hand-signed, folded 11″x17″ print, printed with soy-based inks on 80# 100% PCW Recycled Silk Text stock
Local Phoenix artist, Jen Urso knows cactus. Stemming from her fascination with cities and the unique climate of the Sonoran Desert, she began a year-long project compiling a map of all the most interesting cactus she observed around Central Phoenix. Found in front yards, along canals or in front of businesses, she discovered over 35 different types, compiling them all into this unique and first-of-its-kind Phoenix Cactus Map.
Although not all varieties shown are native to Arizona, they all certainly love the local alkaline soil and drought-like conditions. This hand-illustrated cactus map encompasses all of Central Phoenix. That includes Buckeye Road in the South to Bethany Home Road to the north and 19th Avenue to the west and 16th Street to the east. This 11″x17″ version is the companion to the larger, 22″x28″ on. It is meant to travel with you as you explore the streets of Central Phoenix. The text will be small since this map is originally designed to print larger but it’s nothing a pair of reading glasses (or great eyesight) can’t solve.
Jen has traversed the city scouting the best cactus gardens planted intentionally by city-dwellers and some that happened by “accident” (like on the side of the canal). Included are over 30 types of cactus species, as well as information on all types of cactus found at each location. Whether you’re new or native to Phoenix, this map in an intentional learning tool for all desert-dwellers. After learning about new cactus locales and species, apply your knowledge to find your OWN favorite cactus in the Valley of the Sun! Also included in this unique map are iconic bits of architecture, some favorite coffee spots and other fun bits of knowledge about Phoenix.
Please note that this is the ORIGINAL, 1st Edition Phoenix Cactus Map and not the 2nd, updated edition.
This print mails in a sturdy, flat mailer.
